A government oversight panel may propose changes to a state law that lets law enforcement seize money and other items from people suspected of illegal activity. In Iowa, they can seize cash, cars or property from a person suspected of a crime, before they’re even charged. Reformers want to change that, particularly since many who lose their property to seizure end up not being convicted of anything.
