Central Iowa Shelter and Services to Host 5K Run/Walk to Raise Awareness for Homelessness

Central Iowa Shelter and Services (CISS) is hosting Des Moines’ first-ever Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) 5K on February 25, 2023. The Coldest Night of the Year is an annual, family-friendly walk/run fundraiser with locations across the United States and Canada.

This event serves as a platform to raise funds and awareness for homelessness in Des Moines—all while gaining perspective on the additional challenges that winter brings to these vulnerable populations.

Registration is FREE, but participants who raise money on their own will have an opportunity to win an exclusive 2023 CNOY winter beanie. In addition, participants are invited to bring any redeemable cans and bottles to the event—which will feature a designated drop-off box near the start of the race. All proceeds from fundraising and can and bottle redemption will benefit CISS’ emergency shelter—including cold weather initiatives and other services.

The CNOY is a great way to get out and serve the community, stay active, and give back alongside others! Anyone interested in participating can register at https://centraliowashelter.org/events/5k-fundraiser.html
