John Mayer is back with new solo music, releasing his latest single, “Tom and Jerry,” on October 23, 2026. The song marks his first solo release since his 2021 album Sob Rock, ending a five-year gap between projects.
Mayer premiered the track on October 22 through his SiriusXM channel, Life with John Mayer, before making it available on major streaming platforms the following day.
The singer-songwriter explained that the song’s unusual title originated from an early voice memo recorded during the writing process. Its lyrics explore romantic uncertainty, longing, and the complicated emotions that come with relationships.
Co-produced by Mayer and Blake Slatkin, “Tom and Jerry” was recorded at Chaplin Studios.
The release also introduces a new chapter in Mayer’s career. He has launched Sob Rock Records, his own record label, in partnership with Mercury Records.
Beyond the new music, Mayer is preparing for a 21-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, scheduled from April through June 2027.
The single brings Mayer’s solo songwriting back into focus as he expands his recording activities.
